Thomas Whatley

My name is Tom Whatley.

I hold a B.A. in Speech and Theatre Education from Louisiana State University and an M.A. in Theatre Direction from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Before arriving at Madison Street Academy, I served six years as Director of Education at Ocala Civic Theatre. I also served as an instructor and director at Riverside Children’s Theatre in Vero Beach, as well as an adjunct faculty member for the Indian River Community College theatre program. I spent two years in Richmond, Virginia as Director of Theatre at The Steward School, during which time I also served as production manager for the Richmond Shakespeare Festival and Encore Theatre Company. I also spent eight years in the classroom, teaching theatre at Flagler Palm Coast High School in Bunnell, Florida and McKinley High School in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Lousiana.  Over the past 25 years, in addition to teaching at every grade level from Kindergarten to college, I have produced, directed, designed, performed, staffed and/or crewed over 100 shows at venues such as The Baton Rouge Alternative Theatre, The Baker Little Theatre, The Baton Rouge Little Theatre, Louisiana State University, Riverside Theatre, Flagler Auditorium, The Florida State Thespian Festival, The National Thespian Festival, and The Annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.  I am a current member of the Florida Alliance for Arts Education and a former board member of the Florida Association of Theatre Educators.
