The students will be working hard this year.
They will be learning more about the mechanics of reading by working on foundational skills, writing and literary elements. You will find the spelling, vocabulary and high frequency words for each week of the current unit in your child's take home folder folder.
We will work in math with many concrete models to help the students understand important concepts which will lay the foundation for higher math skills.
Science and social studies will be integrated into language arts. The students will be reading about topics related to these subjects as well as do research and experiments to make claims and explain their reasoning. We will also be exploring the STEAM process this year. STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, art and math. The students will be engaging in STEAM activities through out the year. They will be responding to challenges using a combination of the subjects above.
Please remember to check your child's take home folder daily for notes and fliers that are sent home and take things out as they come home. Check your child's Friday papers to see how he or she is progressing in class.
Remember your child needs to be reading 20 minutes per night. AR tests should be taken weekly. Your child can also do Kidbiz at home if you choose to have them do so.
