Mrs. Kathy Coleman

In 2014 I had the privilege of being the Madison Street Teacher of the Year. One of the challenges of that whole process was being able to summarize in 25 words or less what teaching means to me. These were the words that would be read as I walked across the stage to get my certificate that were to capsualize why I do what I do.....

Teaching connects three loves: kids, music, and learning. Every day is a new adventure and I am blessed to be a part of their journey.
TWENTY years ago I began my journey here at Madison Street when it was still called Madison Street School of Basics Plus......I was part of the PLUS because the special areas were the magnet enrichment team. Since that first year in my portable in what is now the PE field, I began seeing many faces come and go. The very first KEYZ classes the students would show up at my portable door when it was still dark outside holding their OWN keyboards which were sometimes bigger than they were. LOL. So many wonderful memories and how quickly time passes and now here we are ready to start another year. WOW!
When I am not here at school spending time with my Madison Street family or at FBC Ocala spending time with my worship ministry family in rehearsals, I get to see my husband Jeff and my Dad. My mom moved onto her heavenly home in June 2016. My folks were really active in my earlier years here at MSA making costumes and sets for productions. My two grown daughters Jennifer and Leslie live too many states away and so do my beautiful and growing grandchildren. My oldest, Jennifer is in Iowa with her husband Michael and their daughters Abby, Leah, and Jillian and my granddogs Jack and Hamilton (Hami). My youngest daughter Leslie is in California now.  Her children are Devon, Madyson and Alyson.
I look forward to an exciting year of learning together! Let the journey begin!
