Mr. James Touchton

Hi. My name is Mr. Touchton, but you can call me Mr. T.    I am a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. My teaching career began in 2005 at North Marion High School teaching Drafting, Algebra 1, and American Sign Language. In 2008 I received my Professional Certification and joined Forest High School (FHS) as a Drafting instructor in FHS’s Engineering and Manufacturing Institute of Technology (EMIT) Magnet Program. I have also been an AP Physics and AP Statistics instructor for FHS. For the 2018-2019 school year, I have a position in the FHS Math Department as an Algebra 2 / Algebra 2 Honors instructor.

Before teaching I earned 24 years of industry experience with technology, computer, and communication companies such as IBM, Agilent Technologies, Jabil Circuits, and BellSouth learning a unique and real world perspective to the mathematics curriculum and how math is used in engineering, manufacturing and problem solving.

Improvement of the educational environment of Marion County has been a motivating force behind my involvement in various activities inside and out of the classroom. Mentoring EMIT’s F.I.R.S.T Robotics team, sponsoring FHS’s Technology Student Association (TSA), training in the American Federation of Teacher’s Educational Research and Development (ER&D) program, active leadership in the Marion Education Association, running for Marion County School Board, and appointment to the financial oversight committee to review MCPS’s use of the 2015-2019 one-mil school tax increase are highlights of my work for better education opportunities for all students.

I am also active in the community as a math tutor, science tutor, and a professional musician.
