Degrees and Certifications:
BA Spanish and French - East Texas State University MS Foreign Language Education - Syracuse University NBCT-WLOE 2004-2014
This is my 28th year of teaching Spanish, my 13th year here in Marion County. Previously I worked for General Electric Aerospace Industries and before that I was an officer in the United States Air Force, serving in the Office of Special Investigations as a criminal investigator, counterintelligence officer, counterespionage officer and a terrorist analyst for the Middle East. I learned my Spanish as an International Exchange student for the Rotary Club in Cordoba, Argentina. I double majored in French and Spanish at East Texas State University, in Commerce, Texas (now Texas A&M at Commerce), studied German in college, went to the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, CA and learned Turkish. I was stationed in Turkey for 2 years and enjoyed that experience tremendously. I earned my Master's in Foreign Language Education at Syracuse University and was a National Board Certified Teacher in Languages other than English from 2004 to 2014.
My passions are reading and riding horses (English primarily, but I have ridden Western). I am the oldest of 4 - Kim (blonde) is a director of the Asia Museum in San Francisco, Cyndi (tall brunette) is a nurse/professional artist, and Barbara (short brunette) is a retired nurse. I am married to Richard, a retired Criminal Psychologist (he actually worked with the "Son of Sam" killer) and we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary this year. We raised my husband's great grand niece (2009 FHS graduate) and are the proud grandparents of a lovely little girl - Deborah Lynn. My husband and I play tennis every week and he is an avid golfer in addition to writing music and plays.
