Welcome to Advanced and Regular Earth and Space Science!

  • 6/1/2020

Good afternoon, families. Here is some important information regarding this week:
Chromebooks must be returned June 3rd and 4th.
-We will begin our text/library/chromebook collection. On Wednesday, June 3, students with last names A-L will drop off from 12:30-2:00 in the BUS LOOP. Please enter campus through the gate between Hammett Bowen and Liberty. Thursday, June 4 from 12:30-2:00, students with last names M-Z will be dropping off. If students are continuing PLATO courses, they will keep their chromebooks until July.
At the same time (both days) students who have paid for their yearbook (pre-paid only) can pick those up in the CAR LINE. Please enter campus through the main gate and go through car line for yearbooks. Families may still purchase yearbooks through Friday, May 29 online via LMS website. Only students who have pre-paid for yearbooks will be allowed to pick up those days.
We will send out a message if we have any yearbooks left to purchase after next week and it will be on a first come-first served  basis. Reserve yours now through May 29 online to avoid missing out.

Due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, my classes will be online.  This is a new way of teaching for me.  I am in the process of setting up my classses.  So, in the meanwhile, students will get their assignments for my class, through my webpage.  All work will be under the Earth and Space science  4th quarter assignments tab.  If at anytime you have a question, please email me.  My email address is: melissa.doby-jones@marion.k12.fl.us

    Welcome back!

I missed you so much.  At this time, my website is the only place to get assignments for this class, so, please check it daily.  Please check my webpage under the Earth and Space Science Notes and Lessons tab and the Assignment tab for assignments.  Make sure you save all assignments in a file.  When naming your file make sure you always put your name and date of the assigment.  Notes will still be done in the focused note format, so it should be very similar to what we have already been doing.  You can  make a digital copy, scan, or take pictures of your work and send it to me.  Please check your email and my website daily for extra information from me.

Please check Ms. Doby-Jones Information page tab and Lesson and Notes tab everyday.  I will be using e-texbooks, powerpoints, notes, and videos for instruction along with other types of resources.  I am in the process of inquiring extra information about Microsoft Teams ans Google Classroom.  In the near future one of these may be added to the online learning process for my class.

For the attendance, please send me a "check-in"email  Monday or Tuesday of every week.  Type the word "Check-In" on the subject line of your email.

I am Ms. Doby-Jones and I am your child's 6th grade science teacher.  I am very thrilled to be teaching Advanced and Regular Earth and Space Science this year.  In earth and space science, students study the origin, structure, and physical phenomena of the earth and the universe.  Here on my website, you will find topics that will be covered this year as well as information on major tests and projects that will be given.

Topics that will be covered this year are as follows:

    First Semester

    • Nature of Science
    • Earth's Structure and Energy
    • Plate Tectonics
    • Rock Cycle/Changes Over Time/Human Impact
    • Earth's History
    • Atmosphere

    Second Semester

    • Weather
    • Water Cycle
    • Oceans
    • Space Exploration
    • Solar System
    • Stars and the Universe

Because Earth and Space Science is the study of the origin, structure, and physical phenomena of the earth and the universe, there will be many areas to explore.  This class will be intense, challenging, and rigorous.  My goal is to make this class easy to understand and fun to learn, the standards that will be assessed for mastery.
