•       My goal this year is for every student to become successful in reading.  I expect students to work to the best of their ability and respect everyone's opinions, similarities and differences.

    Fast Forward:

This year, all students will be given instruction in whole group and small groups.  In whole group, which will be allotted during the first half of instruction, students will decode words, learn new vocabulary words, practice fluency, and increase comprehension.

During the last half of class, students will rotate into three different groups of guided reading, SuccessMaker and independent reading/work.  During guided reading, I will "guide" the group through different stories.  Students will learn before, during and after read strategies.  SuccessMaker is a computer rotation where students will individually work on a computer in the room, increasing their vocabulary and comprehension levels.  Finally, during independent reading/work, students will independently read an AR book or will be given extra work on a specific area they are having trouble with.

Students should have plenty of paper at all times along with something to write with!  A folder will be provided and kept in class.  The resources we will be using are SRA Decoding book, SRA Decoding workbook, Read for Real Nonfiction stories and Wildside books.

     Read 180:

50 minute reading emphasizes on comprehension, vocabulary and elements of Language Arts.  Students will keep a folder in my class to complete their classwork that will be graded every couple of weeks as a class work grade.  Students will be expected to complete a workbook along with the texts they read as well, which will also count as clas work.  Tests and quizzes will be open book and given after we have successfully broken down each text by using various before, during and after reading strategies.

All materials (class book, workbook, and folder) will be kept in class.  Students should read every night for at least 15 minutes to you or by themselves to increase their fluency.  A homework grade will be given by testing a child's fluency every couple of weeks to make sure they have been reading a home!
