Welcome to Dr. Kerley's Classes
History, more than any other discipline, sharpens one's analytical and communication skills. We will be reading and analyzing a variety of historical texts (documents, photographs, cartoons, paintings, etc.) covering European and World history from 1450 to the present. We will be asking questions related to the practice of history, such as 'What is history?' 'Why write history?' and 'How and why has historical thinking and writing changed over time?' We will also be examining how people experienced, thought and wrote about the past from multiple viewpoints that were influenced by one's race, gender, class, faith, occupation and sex. My courses will be excellent preparation for taking other advanced-level classes in other subject areas.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you this year!
To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe.
