Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to my Teacher Website. I have been teaching Special Needs students for 33 years with 23 of those years teaching Adaptive Physical Education at Maplewood Elementary. Each and every student in my classes is unique and special. I miss seeing them everyday and will do my best to provide you with some fun activities to assist you in engaging your child in some physical movement. When your child is at school, he or she spends a half hour each day with me at PE. I think for many it is their favorite time of the day! While you are at home, I am suggesting you try to provide your child with 5 to 10 minute movement activities throughout the day. This might mean going for a walk, turning on some music and having a dance party, hide and seek, or anything else your child might enjoy. You know your child best! The activity doesnt have to be strenuous or even have specific rules. Aim for fun and movement. Most of my students participate in a brief set of exercises each day when they come to PE. Some know them by heart and can lead the class and others require assistance. I will be attaching a video of me leading these exercises to my page in the next few days. You can play it each day for your child and have then join me in exercising. Their siblings and other family members can join them! No need to worry about form. Movememt and fun are what we are focused on. I'll also be attaching several movement to music activities that I think your child might enjoy. Try playing one or two each day after the exercises. It may take a few days before your child joins in. If you or other family members join, your child will likely follow your lead. You can assist them in any manner they may need. The idea is to have fun! If you have any questions, you can reach me via school Email between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. I look forward to seeing my students again when the situation allows.
