Welcome to Mrs. Barberie's Class!
Welcome to Kindergarten at Wyomina Park Elementary. This year we will be implementing Developmentally Appropriate Practices into our curriculum.
We will be creating, talking, explaining, building and thinking through play, in Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.
Kindergarteners are the most exciting to teach because they grow so much within the year. In Language Arts, we will begin by building a foundation of phonic and phonemic awareness, print concepts, listening comprehension. As the year progresses, you will see your child blending words, writing sentences and reading.
In Math, we will learn about number sense, counting, ordering, value. We will be learning to add and subtract, name and build 2D and 3D shapes. We will learn to measure.
Social studies will include geography, civics, economics, American symbols, timelines, and historical knowledge.
In Science, we will be learning about the practice of science, the 5 senses, night and day, Earth science and physical science.
There are so many skills and concepts to learn this year. Please ask your child to tell you about the learning going on in the classroom each day. Ask about the books we read, what kinds of centers were available, what letters or words were learned.
Each year I'm amazed at the curiosity and enthusiasm of a 5-year-old. I hope you'll be amazed as well.
