What is ELA?
ELA stands for English and Language Arts. In third grade, students will continue learning about the various structures of reading. In addition, they will be responding to questions that require them to use text evidence as the basis for their answers.
Phonics, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar are additional components included in ELA.
The final component of ELA is Writing. Students will be learning to write narrative, informative, and opinion essays. Informative and opinion essays will require students to base their responses on nonfiction text they read. They will use evidence-based terminology in their writing.
Third grade Social Studies focuses on the theme of communities. Primarily, the scope of their learning will focus on North America and the Caribbean. Social Studies will be incorporated into the ELA learning block period.
