Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Van Arsdall
Hi, I am Kyle Van Arsdall. This will be my eighth year in the classroom and my fourth year teaching at Vanguard High School. I received my Bachelor's degree in Marketing from Louisiana State University and my Master's degree in Athletic Coaching Education from West Virginia University. I am blessed to say I am married to my incredible wife of eight years and together we have two amazing children, ages 5 and 2.
I teach Vanguard’s "Future Teacher" vocational program (formally known as “Teacher Assisting”) that includes three different classes: Intro to the Teaching Profession, Human Growth and Development, and Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction. The goal of this three-year program is to introduce the teaching profession to students who have a genuine interest in becoming an educator in the future. Throughout the program, we try to answer questions like "what is it like being a teacher?" "How do I become a teacher?" "What are the challenges and rewards of the profession?" and "What does a teacher actually do?" These classes provide incredible insight into the world of education.
I also teach a Life Skills class called Practical Arts. This class focuses on the essential skills necessary for success in life after high school. We touch on personal finance and money management, professional writing skills, job skills, professionalism as a whole, how to rent an apartment, how to buy a car, insurance, and many other topics that today's young people need to thrive in a fast-paced world.
I will also be back on the pool deck this year as Vanguards Head Swim Coach and am looking forward to a great season!
