Ms. Kimberly James
Hello,
I've been employed at NMMS since August 1997. My post-secondary training primarily hails from Florida A & M University for both my bachelor's and master's degree through the college of education. I've also completed some courses at Stetson University in Deland in an effort to satisfy the State of FL requirements for Clinical Mental Health licensure. While enrolled at Stetson University, I was inducted into the honor society for Clinical Mental Health. I also graduated from Middle Florida Theological Seminary and Bible College with a B.S. degree in Theology.
My family members are very dear to me. Both sides of my family, Damon and Kennedy, are from Marion County (specifically Santos and Sparr). My mom, Margaret Wise, successfully completed 42 years of service in Marion County public schools as a math/science teacher at Osceola Middle and Ft. King Middle. My father, Rev. Harold Damon, was the host pastor of the Power of the Gospel radio broadcast on 89.5fm (Daystar Radio) for almost 30 years. He is an associate pastor at St. Lewis Missionary Baptist Church in Ocala. My aunt, Gail Kennedy, successfully completed 39 years of service in Marion County public schools, all at Forest High School, as a social studies teacher. I also have three paternal aunts (Mrs. Donar, Mrs. Little, and Mrs. Damon) who were employed as cafeteria managers or a school teacher with MCPS for more than 35 years. I have two siblings (Craig Damon and Karen Mackey, my fraternal twin). We were all, at one point, employees of MCPS. However, Craig retired in 2013. He is now the first black Executive Director at the Florida High School Athletic Association. Prior to his retirement, he was the first African American head varsity football coach in Marion County Public school and led the North Marion High School colts to continuous winning seasons, and increased the number of athletes who qualified for college scholarships. Karen is a CBVT coordinator/Teacher on assignment for the ESE department. I have one son, Sherman. He is a graduate of North Marion High School class of 2016 and he is a graduate of Eastern Gulf Coast Community College. I have a host of nieces and nephews whom I also love dearly.
I serve as an Elder at Miracle Deliverance Center #4, WWCM in Ocala, FL. I spend a considerable amount of time with my church family and the community of Sparr. When I am not at NMMS, then I am definitely somewhere working for my Heavenly Father or "bonding" with my family members.
As your child's counselor, I want you to feel welcome to get to know me for yourself and encourage you to be active in your child's education. The best way to contact me is by email: kimberly.james@marion.k12.fl.us. You may also call me on 352-671-6037. Have a great school year!
