SLIP/ SLOP/ SLAP
The Florida summer is almost here and so are the dangerous heat and humidity conditions combined with extra sun exposure. Children sweat less than adults . This makes children more at risk for heat illnesses such as dehydration, heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
For your final assignment, we want you to create an outdoor cooling station.2. SLOP. On your sunscreen SPF. 15 or above3. SLAP. On a hat and sunglasses4. Create a cooling station with a spray bottle of water, a sprinkler hose, a mister ,or a sponge full of water.
Tips for staying cool and safe………
Drink plenty of water. Try to avoid sugary drinks and soda.
Sunscreen SPF. 15 or more, apply every 2 hours and after swimming.
Wear light colored clothing that is light weight.
Avoid lots of exposure to sun between 10:00 and 4:00
Check out the heat index and humidity.
Review signs of DEHYDRATION: dry mouth, thirst, headache, being irritable or cranky, dizziness, cramps, excessive fatigue
Review signs of HEAT EXHAUSTION: severe thirst, muscle weakness, nausea, shallow breathing, headache, irritability, increased sweating, cool clams skin, body temp elevates to 105.
