• Language Arts:   This year in Language Arts students will learn reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills related to the Florida standards.  Reading skills include theme, main idea, compare and contrast, inferencing, summarizing, and understanding story elements.  Writing focuses on narrative and informational writing with an emphasis on writing an opinion piece by providing evidence from a text or texts.   Language Arts skills also include, grammar, spelling, handwriting, and oral presentation.  I read aloud daily to the children and also provide time for free choice independent reading.   Students visit the library for book check out and library classes.  We also have a classroom library with over 2,000 books!

Social Studies:  Florida history is our focus in fourth grade social studies.  We begin the first half of the year studying Florida maps, Native Americans, and early explorers.  Our focus the second half of the year includes: Florida pioneer life, Florida in the 1900s (including Flagler and the railroads), civics and government, and economics.

Students must be reading 20 minutes every school night.  The children will have assigned projects throughout the school year.  I will post those activities on the website and send a letter home with instructions and information.

Agendas   All students may use an agenda/calendar for recording important information.  Parents, please check and sign your child's agenda daily.  They are an excellent tool for communication.

Scholastic Books:  I send Scholastic flyers home monthly.  This is an easy way for you to get quality books for your child at a reasonable price. You may order through the class or online.
