Ms. Gena (Welch) Booher

ee. cummings wrote:  "i'd rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach ten-thousand stars how not to dance..."

In 1978, if you'd asked Ms. Booher what she would do if she knew she would not fail, she'd have answered with enthusiasm: "I'd teach ART!"  However, all those years ago she chose to take what she believed would be a more practical path - and used the visual arts as teaching aids, and as ways for kids to show what they know in the core acadamic subjects.

Ms. Booher brings experiences from decades of teaching in a variety of different settings to her classes at BMS.  She has taught students of all grade levels, 1-12 as a Teacher of Gifted.   She taught 6th grade math and social studies at a magnet school for the Visual and Performing Arts in Chattanooga, TN, where all teachers were expected to use the Arts to enliven the learning experience.    Since coming to Marion County in summer of 2000,  she has taught Social Studies grades 6-8, worked with Gifted students at Belleview Middle, taught fifth grade at Saddlewood Elementary, then spent seven years teaching Science at Osceola Middle School.

Now, she is returning to the Arts - where she plans to inspire students to use their five senses to observe, and to use their minds and hearts to create amazing stuff!

Ms. Booher and her husband live in Marion County, where they share a home with four very rowdy Airedale Terriers and her two horses.
