Welcome to Kindergarten!
My name is Kelly Wilson and I am your child’s kindergarten teacher this year. I am new to Legacy Elementary but I have been teaching for 14 years. I have two sons in the Marion County School system. My son Josh is in 6th grade at Osceola Middle School. He is 11 years old and loves school. My son Randall is in 9th grade at Forest High School. He is 14 and is excited to be starting high school this year. My boys keep me really busy as they are both involved in sports. Randall is a swimmer for the Forest High School swim team and Josh enjoys playing football and baseball. I have lived in Florida for most of my life and went to middle and high school in Ocala. I have been married for 23 years to Lewis Wilson. He is a teacher as well. He teaches advanced science at Osceola Middle School. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you. We are going to have a fantastic year!
We have had a great first nine weeks. We are learning about how the author and illustrator work together to tell a story in reading. Students are doing literacy centers every day and practicing their phonics, spelling, sight words, and participating in a Guided Reading lesson with me. In math we are working on comparing numbers from 0-10. We are looking at number sets and counting each set. Next, we look to see which set has the greatest number and which set is less than. We are learning how to sort by attributes in science. Attributes are size, color, shape, and texture. In social studies we are learning about citizenship. Thanks for the fantastic support in the 1st nine weeks with helping your child complete the homework packets and sending in their folders every day. Also, thanks to the parents who have sent in snacks to the class.
Please practice the student number that was sent home in your child's folder. They have to key in the student number every day for lunch. They also need to key this number in when they check a book out in the library. Please help them enter this number on the calculator on the sheet I sent home. Thank you!
