About Emerald Shores Elementary School
Creating learners for life.
Emerald Shores Elementary School is located in a densely populated area of south Marion County. Opened in 1989, this school provides an excellent learning environment for our students. Based on 2006 FCAT scores, our school earned a grade of “A” for the fourth year in a row. Additionally, we met the criteria for Adequate Yearly Progress set by the “No Child Left Behind” requirements.
Presently, Emerald Shores has 676 students, with 41% majority and 59% minority. Our minority population is composed of 34% Black, 16% Hispanic, and 9% American Indian or Multiracial. Thirteen percent of our students are identified as having a learning disability, 76% are economically disadvantaged, and 7% are Limited English Speaking. Our school provides each of these students an educational experience specifically designed to meet their needs. The diversity of our students provides our school community with challenges and opportunities for learning, both academically and socially.
Special programs at Emerald Shores include K-kids, sponsored by our local Kiwanis Club; Chorus and Art Club. Our mascot is the Panther and our school colors are green and white.
