Mrs. Anderson- 4th Grade ELA Teacher

Reading assessments will happen at the end of every 6 week UNIT.  Please look for notes in your student's agenda planner. Students will be required to write the skills and concepts we are covering and they will make notes about upcoming assessments and items to study. Your child can access their reading curriculum anytime online on their Connect Ed account.

The assessments that we will take for the writing portion of ELA are called Reading Writing Assessments (RWA). Your child will be required to read through 2-4 passages and then respond to a prompt that asks them to consider what they’ve read and answer either in explanation or to give their opinion.

In 4th grade we will focus on Florida’s past, present and future! We will complete four Document Based Questions (DBQs), one each quarter this year. Our DBQs will present us with a question. We will look though historic documents, analyze them, and then write a essay response to a prompt that includes information we gathered from the documents.

Homework will consist of students reading for 20 minutes a day. This seems insignificant but there is a lot of research explaining the benefits of regular reading. Please note that I will be checking reading logs and AR data every Thursday!

I am looking forward to having a wonderful year!
