    You have an exciting and challenging year ahead.  Below is a description of the following items:  curriculum, supplies, homework, assignments, grades and discipline.


    Curriculum:   This year’s focus will include the reading process, the writing process/application, communication, literary analysis and information/media literacy.  You will be taught all concepts and skills specified in the Language Arts Florida State Standards. You may view the standards in depth at FLDOE.org.

    Homework:  Homework will be given to supplement and reinforce concepts or to complete unfinished class work.  The amount of weekly homework will vary according to curriculum needs.


    Assignments Missed due to Absence:  It is the responsibility of the student to request missed work.  According to district policy, students have one day from the first day of their return to school to complete a missed assignment.   Students with multiple, consecutive, excused absences may arrange with the teacher for extensions.


    Parent Portal:  The Parent Portal will contain the following information:  student assignments, date assigned, date due and points achieved.  Parents may view the MCPS Parent Portal to keep track of a student's grades, assignments and progress. 

    Extra credit is assigned during the 9-week term (20 points each assignment).  Extra credit is NOT required. 


    Grading Policy:

    You will be graded according to the Marion County School Board grading scale. Grade categories will be weighted accordingly:  Standard 1: Reading (35%), Standard 2: Writing (35%), Standard 3:  Language (20%), Standard 4:  Speaking & Listening (10%).  









    Good behavior is necessary for you to be successful.  The following rules are important in order to maintain an environment conducive to learning.

    1. Be in class on time.
    2. Bring required materials.
    1. Raise your hand to speak.
    2. Stay on task.
    3. Respect others and their personal property.
    4. Leave any unauthorized materials at home.
    5. Cell phone use is NOT permitted without instructor permission.


    The following consequences will be administered for improper behavior.

    1. Verbal warning
    2. Student-Teacher Conference during Alpha Time
    3. Parent Contact (phone, voice message, text or email)
    4. Referral
