Attention 8th grade classes - Thursday 4/9 - 9:00 Zoom Classroom - we will be having a Zoom meeting to discuss video – “America Story of Us: Division.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n8WmgSek3c&list=PLUvgn1rvfmHSkR4ozbHzSqhGqf1ZKAJKf&index=7&t=0s
Before the meeting, watch and take notes on the important points of the video. Be ready to discuss the video. The video is about 40 minutes in length.
Two questions for consideration:
- Around the 20 minute point of the movie the statement is made, “a fight for America’s soul has just begun,” what do you think this means?
- This video basically describes “sectionalism” – What are some of the provocations and ideologies that would led the country to war?
You will be sent an email before the meeting inviting you to join. Hope to see you all then!!

We are going to need to work together to finish out the school year strong. I will do my best to make the material engaging, and you will need to do your best to be engaged in the classwork. This type of learning is new to all of us; therefore, at first, it will be clumsy and awkward, but we will learn how to learn together, as we have the entire school year. This means I need you to be involved, ask questions, participate, and be patient with me and your classmates. If you have thoughts or ideas how to make this process work better – please, make your suggestions known.
On this teacher website, I will be setting up tabs for each grade level. You will need to check often for assignments. We will be using different types of media to facilitate learning; however, this will be where you get assignments and directions. For the time being, assignments will be turned in through Google classrooms, which I am in the process of creating. We will be having grade level classroom discussion through Zoom, which will be a new experience for me and probably most of you. The times for these virtual classrooms will be posted under the tab for your grade level.
The first thing I would like each of you to do is email me with a confirmation that you have read this and you are ready for this new experiment in learning. Guys, this will be successful if we collectively make it so. One thing I know - you guys are brilliant and have a lot to offer to this adventure – SOOoooo…. , let’s make the most of learning together!
