Ms. Alyson Savage-School Counselor
Dunnellon Elementary has been my home for 15 of my 20 years in the educational realm. Two of my adult children actually went to school here. I have been the School Counselor for the past 5 years. While at Dunnellon Elementary, I have had many roles that include Food Service, Paraprofessional and Inclusion Teacher. I have also taught Exceptional Student Education at another Marion County Public School.
My educational background consists of earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education, which include Reading and ESOL endorsements from the University of West Florida. Furthermore, I continued my education to earn a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Lamar University. I continually seek opportunities to further my knowledge and advocate for students and the school counseling profession by being part of the Marion County’s School Counseling & Assessment Leadership Team. Additionally, I am currently a member of the Emerging Leaders Program through the Florida School Counseling Association.
As part of my Comprehensive School Counseling Program, the school wide focus is the implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL has been associated with increased student skills, prosocial behavior, test scores (math and reading), and better attitudes about themselves and their environments. SEL also, lowers emotional distress and reduces problem behaviors (Osher, 2011). This is measured by a decrease in discipline and “at risk” referrals, while increasing academic achievement.
I look forward to collaboratively working together as a school community to support all your child’s needs.
