Mrs. Gonzalez

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

I look forward to being a part or your child’s learning.  I was born in Havana, Cuba and my parents came to the United States when I was 4 years old.  They made Miami, Florida their home and that’s where I grew up.  I have 14 years of teaching experience.  My first goal was accomplished when obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University.  Currently I hold a Professional Certificate in Elementary Education (1 – 6).   Recognizing the importance of education, I enrolled in Liberty University’s Online Graduate Program and completed a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling. I was named 2014's Florida Hispanic Heritage Month Educator of Academic Excellence in the Elementary School category. I received my award during a ceremony at the governor’s mansion where I had the privilege of meeting Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez Cantera.  This is an honor I will always cherish.

I have a beautiful family that I love dearly, there’s Mr. Gonzalez, my three sons Jorge Jr., Jonathan, and Joshua.  Plus I have the most amazing grandchildren.  They are Gloria, Jonathan, Dahlia, Noah, Kyra, and Arianna. Our pet is a wonderful Blue Nose Pit-bull Terrier named Tarzan.

When I’m not teaching or planning a fabulous lesson for the class, you’ll find me spending time with my family.  We love going to the beach, boating, fishing, jet skiing, going out to eat, and weekends at my house.  When I need to relax I enjoy a good book, crochet, or watch a movie.

My expectation for my students is simple and I always remind them of this phrase “Never settle for anything less than your best”.  I want them to understand that if they give every assignment their best they are guaranteed success.

Parental involvement is critical to a student’s academic success.  Team effort is essential and if we work together your child will have a great year.  I believe that communication is the key to your child’s achievement.  Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.  My telephone number at Belleview Elementary is 671-6100 Ext. 51166 and my email is maria.gonzalez2@marion.k12.fl.us.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your child’s life.

I know we will have a wonderful school year!
