Welcome to US History - Mrs. Owen
Although it is a little late in the year, I’d still like to welcome you to 8th grade US History. As of Monday, February 13, I’ll be taking over Mrs. Schrier’s classes and will be working with your student for the remainder of the year. My name is Katy Owen and this is my third year as a Fort King Falcon. I’ve been working in Student Services as an Exceptional Student Education Dean until October, then took over the role of Testing Facilitator. I will continue with testing and teaching for the remainder of the year. My blood runs ORANGE and BLUE, as my undergrad degree is in History from the University of Florida. Additionally, I have a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Leo University. I’ve taught at Lake Weir and Osceola Middle School and look forward to working with you and your student in the upcoming months!
Many of you have expressed concerns about catching up on material in preparation for the End of Course Exam in May. I’d like to put your doubts at ease in the fact that I am incredibly organized and will work to make sure all content has been covered before the end of the year. You can follow along with our progress by keeping up with my teacher website at www.marionschools.net/fkm. Additionally, the district has made the decision to cut some of the lengthier assessments for the remainder of the year in an effort to give teachers more instructional time. Our tentative schedule is listed below.
I will be making parent phone calls in the near future to touch base with you, but please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns requiring immediate attention. Big changes like this are never an easy thing, but I’m confident that we are doing what’s best for your student as we move forward.
All the best,
