• This course covers the history of North America beginning with its earliest settlers through European colonization and ending with the Civil War and Reconstruction.  Along the way, we will look at the effect that these events had on the various people groups involved (Native Americans, Europeans, Africans, women and other minorities). There are many educational standards that students are expected to meet by the end of the course.  The main purpose is to give them a sense of their individual and collective heritage, an appreciation of the trials and triumphs of the United States through the years and a better understanding of the world around them today based upon what has happened in the past.
