Curriculum for 6th-8th Grades
Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks has established an Advanced Academy program. We currently offer seven high school credit classes. Last school year, 2015-16, we had 236 high school credits earned on our campus. These credits include Algebra I Honors, English I Honors, Physical Science Honors, 2D Studio Art, Agriscience Foundations, Digital Information Technology, and Medical Skills. We have selected courses that challenge our students in addition to courses that offer an academic advantage leading to the high school magnet programs offered at Dunnellon High School and West Port High School, where the majority of our student matriculate.
Horizon Academy maintains a unique middle school schedule which includes Hawk Hour, an activity period mid-day, allowing students opportunities to participate in clubs such as Future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Health Occupation Student Association, and more. In addition, during Hawk Hour, students can participate in Pep Band, Mythology, Aquaculture, Hydroponics, Debate Team, Journalism, Math Assistance, and many other activities. These activities can offer real world application to their current in-class studies plus leadership development.
All students are required to take Math, Language Arts, Science,Social Studies and Physical Education. In addition, students will have a variety of elective opportunities.
- All students will receive the opportunity to choose from the following list of electives: Agriculture (8th Grade), Art, Band, Business Applications, Health Occupations, and Video Production.
