Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) magnet school, located in the heart of the Marion Oaks subdivision in southern Marion County. We are unique because of the STEAM magnet program, but also because we are 5-8 school. Having a fifth grade class allows those upper elementary students to better adapt to team teaching, middle school behavior and academic standards, as well as allowing them to participate in all that middle school has to offer without taking away that elementary experience.
Horizon is a Title I school, which means additional funding can be used to supplement classrooms, provide technology to students and classrooms, provide professional development for our staff, and additional opportunities for all of our students. All of our students may join the community center, which provides computer access, games, social activities and more to the entire Marion Oaks community.
Horizon’s bell schedule is an alternating block period, meaning each class meets every other day, with a common homeroom, called HAWK time, each day. This allows for club meetings during the school day without interfering with class times and times for a student study hall. Student clubs and organizations include the FFA, FBLA, SAVE Promise Club, Band, Relay for Life, NJHS, Drama and more. We also participate in a competitive middle school athletics program in cross country, volleyball, basketball, and track, with both boys’ and girls’ teams.
Horizon Academy is a unique school with unique academic offerings. It is our goal to ensure all students are prepared for high school and beyond by priming students with a variety of courses and taught in a variety of engaging strategies. Our students understand that, “Good is Not Enough, when Better is Possible – and Better is a Never-Ending Quest!
