Welcome to the 2nd week of Distance Learning ! As we continue this journey of online instruction, just remember we're in it together and we will get through it together! Please try not to stress and feel free to reach out for help. If at any time you get confused, you can email me at email@example.com and I will do my best to walk you through it. You can also contact me by phone during these two "office" hours: 10:00-11:00 and 12:00-1:00 at 352-462-3071. As we start week 2 of our Distance Learning you will find new lessons loaded in all subjects. You will see there are 3 assignments each for ELA and Math and one assignment each for Science and Social Studies. These assignments are for the entire week, no new lessons will be loaded until next Monday so students have all week to complete the lessons. Each new assignment has a due date of 4/16/20.Last week's lessons are still available for those who haven't completed them yet with a due date of this Thursday 4/9/20 or Friday 4/10/20. Please keep in mind, this week students have teacher-assigned lessons in both Math and ELA in IReady. Those are 2nd grade level lessons that address the current 2nd grade standards we would normally cover in whole group whereas their "path" lessons in IReady are tailored to meet their current level and bridge the gap for those not yet at grade level so they still need to get 45 minutes of time logged into their IReady"path" lessons. When they were in class I did not assign those 2nd grade lessons so the extra time they are getting from them means they should be logging around an hour to complete one of the assigned lessons in ELA and about 20 minutes each on the 4 assigned math lessons and that is in addition to their required 45 minutes weekly of "path" lessons which are the lessons they are used to working online in class. I am assigning lessons in IReady because they have great tutorials to explain the lesson before students answer questions and they're more fun and interactive than just written work. With all this in mind I would expect that each week students will take about an hour and fifteen-thirty minutes to complete their assigned IReady lessons and 45 minutes of "path" lessons on IReady each for Math and ELA. That means they will need a weekly total of about 2hrs.-2hrs. and 15 min. in each subject. Also please make sure they understand they only need to complete each assigned lesson once, I noticed last week a few of them went back in and redid the lesson and it's probably because they're not used to having teacher assigned lessons, only their regular (path) lessons. So please just tell them that once they complete it to go on to their "path" lessons. They can also play math games On IReady math after they get their required minutes.
Marion County Public Schools may record online classroom sessions utilizing third-party platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.). These recordings will only be used for educational purposes and may be shared on other learning platforms. If you do not want your child’s image or identifying information recorded, utilize your device/platform controls to stop the camera feed from your device.
You will find student assignments posted under the ASSIGNMENTS tab.
Our Special area class for this week is Art. Please have your student log on to Mrs. Flores's website for her assigned activities. Next week we will have P.E
Please make sure your student is reading at least 20 minutes a night. Remember that this is paramount to new reader success. A great way to meet this goal is by using MyOn at home. Students know how to log in through their desktop portal.
IReady Expectations: It is expected that students complete at least 45 minutes in each subject (Reading and Math) weekly. I would encourage you to have them log in and complete about 15-20 minutes 4-5 days a week if possible. The lessons are tailored for each student based on their last diagnostic score and are designed to move students from their current level to grade level and beyond. You will notice that I will also assign a lesson(s) (under Teacher-assigned lessons in IReady) related to the current standard we are working on and those lessons are 2nd grade level and are in addition to the suggested 45 minute weekly requirement of "path" lessons.
