Welcome to 6th Grade Math!

  • Hello students and parent! Welcome to Mr. Jones's 6th-grade math website. Here you will find a lot of pertinent information regarding Mr. Jones's class for the year such as curriculum and grading scales.

As we all know, this is  a very different time for all of us with the novel COVID-19 virus. As such, we have had to change the way in which we do things, which in this case will be working from home. Going forward, I want everyone to realize that I understand that this is a stressful time for all and if you have any problems with completing assignments please let me know through e-mail or during my office hours. Howard Middle school and I will do everything in our power to give you the education you deserve and be prepared for your educational path ahead. Please make sure to be vigilant and check your email and your google classroom regularly, as those will be the platforms that i will be using to reach out to you.

During the upcoming weeks, my office hours will be Monday through Friday from 10:30-11:30 and 1:30- 2:30. What this means is that if you have any questions about the assignments and you would like some quidance through phone or video, you can reach me during those hours in the day. I would like to have a live conference using the application called Zoom during my first office hour, that is 10:30 to 11:30, to give everyone a chance to interact with me live and be able to ask questions. I would like to do this at least 3 days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You do not need to show up at every meeting, but if you want help with anything that is one way to reach me. Plus I will try and record our meetings that way you can access it again on your time.

Please keep in mind that outside of those hours you can still reach me through email and if you call I may not pick up outside of those two hours. If you cannot reach me through phone, be sure to leave a message with your name and a short description of your problem. Please remember to be respectful when talking on the phone, writing emails, or joining a live meeting. If you act innappropriately I will have to report to your parents and our deans who will then call your parents again.

This is going to be a bit different than we are used to and things will be done AT YOUR PACE. This is a great thing to be able to work when you can, but also keep in mind this puts a bit of responsibility in YOUR hands when it comes to completing work. As we go through this, we will have to find ways to manage our time wisely, rouse up motivation to get things done, and be responsible for reaching out to the teacher with any problems.

That being said, take breaks when you need to, get lots of rest, and be comfortable when you work through this style of learning. This will be an interesting journey for you and me and we are both learning, so let's do our best and better ourselves through math!
