“ABSENT” IS ABSENT FROM
THEIR VOCABULARY
MARION COUNTY – Three graduating seniors in Marion County Public Schools know precisely what it means to always “be there,” especially when it comes to class. In other words, “absent” is not part of their everyday vocabulary.
Lindsey Downes, Kyle Rodgers, and Leonard Vassor all graduate with the highest attendance rate in the district for the Class of 2016 – NOT missing a single day of class during 13 years of school. That’s 100 percent attendance -- 2,340 out of 2,340 days of class (minus two hurricane days in 2004!).
Lindsey Downes graduates from West Port High on May 20. In 2003, she started as a kindergarten student at Romeo Elementary and advanced to Howard Middle, Vanguard High, then to West Port High. This 18-year old is the daughter of Stephen and Lorissa Downes of Dunnellon.
Kyle Rodgers graduates from Forest High on May 21. He started his education career at Maplewood Elementary as a kindergarten student in 2003 and advanced to Fort King Middle and Forest High. This 18-year old is the son of Danny and Dana Rodgers of Ocala.
Leonard Vassor graduates from North Marion High on May 21. He began at Reddick-Collier Elementary as a pre-kindergarten student in 2002, then moved on to North Marion Middle and North Marion High. He is 17 years old and the son of Leonard and Linda Vassor of Reddick.
Marion County Public Schools recognizes these students for their dedicated and consistent efforts to always attend school and their outstanding emphasis on a complete education.
