The administration and staff of Lake Weir Middle School are proud to announce the LWMS Advanced Academic Academy, beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. This magnet program will focus on providing a student-centered learning environment where students will be prepared for the demands of rigorous high school magnet programs. The 6th and 7th grade classes will focus on preparing students to take high school course offerings during their eighth grade year. Instruction will focus on advanced language arts writing and reading skills, as well as providing a strong foundation in mathematics. Students in eighth grade will begin their high school career by taking English I Honors, Algebra I Honors, and Physical Science Honors for high school credit.
Our Advanced Academic Academy students will have the opportunity to take elective classes in a variety of areas including Agriculture, Art, Band, Carpentry and Architecture, Culinary Arts, Health Occupations, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Students will also have the opportunity to participate in clubs such as FFA, Good News Club, HOSA, National Junior Honor Society, and Student Government. Extracurricular activities include volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, school dances, and competitive events such as Brain Bowl and MATHCOUNTS.
