    LWMS Advanced Academic Academy Showcase

    Thursday, March 30

    6:00 – 7:30 pm

    The families of upcoming 6th grade students who are interested in or have applied for the LWMS Advanced Academic Academy, as well as the families of current 6th and 7th grade students who are interested in having their child be a part of the Advanced Academy are invited to attend the LWMS Advanced Academic Academy Showcase.


    Mr. Ellers, principal, will be sharing the vision for the Academic Academy. Mr. Martin’s band students will perform for the event in the auditorium and then families will be invited to learn more about our elective classes and programs. Families will also be invited to visit the Book Fair in the Media Center.


    We are looking forward to sharing with the community the wonderful opportunities available for their children at LWMS. If you have any questions about this event or the Academic Academy, please call our school at 352-671-6120.

    FSA, FCAT, EOC Testing

    Students will begin FSA, FCAT and EOC testing beginning on April 10th. Please see below. 


    FSA ELA Reading

    Administered by period with the student's ELA teacher beginning Monday, April 10 - Monday, April 17th.


    FSA Math

    Administered by period with the student's ELA teacher beginning Wednesday, April 19 - Monday, May 1. 


    Algebra I EOC

    Administered by period with the student's Algebra I teacher beginning Monday, May 1 through Friday, May 5.


    8th Grade FCAT Science

    Administered through first period on Wednesday, May 3.


    7th Grade Civics EOC

    Administered by period with the student's Civics teacher Monday, May 8 through Monday, May 15.

    Announcing the Lake Weir Middle School Advanced Academic Academy

    The administration and staff of Lake Weir Middle School are proud to announce the LWMS Advanced Academic Academy, beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. This magnet program will focus on providing a student-centered learning environment where students will be prepared for the demands of rigorous high school magnet programs. The 6th and 7th grade classes will focus on preparing students to take high school course offerings during their eighth grade year. Instruction will focus on advanced language arts writing and reading skills, as well as providing a strong foundation in mathematics. Students in eighth grade will begin their high school career by taking English I Honors, Algebra I Honors, and Physical Science Honors for high school credit.


    Our Advanced Academic Academy students will have the opportunity to take elective classes in a variety of areas including Agriculture, Art, Band, Carpentry and Architecture, Culinary Arts, Health Occupations, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Students will also have the opportunity to participate in clubs such as FFA, Good News Club, HOSA, National Junior Honor Society, and Student Government. Extracurricular activities include volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, school dances, and competitive events such as Brain Bowl and MATHCOUNTS.

    Spring Picture Day Spring Picture Day coming March 30th!

    Students will be bringing home a flyer with information about the upcoming Picture Day.

    The flyer provides the needed information about ordering online via mylifetouch.com if you wish.

    The order form flyer will be coming home during the week of March 20th if you wish to place an order that way.

    Lake Weir Middle provides before and after school tutoring for our students, free of charge. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from tutoring.


    The before school session is held from 8:00AM - 9:00 AM.

    The after school session is held from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

    Family Access

    Family Access is live! This feature provides access to important information including your student's assignments and grades, test scores, attendance, discipline, academic history, student and emergency contact information, messages from the district, school, and teachers, and so much more!
    All custodial parents/guardians are invited to come to the school throughout the day to pick up their Family Access login information. Photo ID is required.

    If you are interested in volunteering your time at Lake Weir Middle we ask that  you please fill out volunteer application and attach a copy of your drivers license. Applications can be delivered to the front desk or returned to school with your student. Click here for the application. A new application must be filled out every year.
